Tony Allwright Photo Gallery: Broomhall Children, 1979/80

Tony Allwright moved to Sheffield in the 1970s. As a keen amateur photographer, he took an interest in documenting the people and buildings of many areas of Sheffield, including Broomhall. The hundreds of photos of Broomhall that he has kindly shared with OUR Broomhall have been split into different galleries.

Tony had a real knack for making portraits of the many young people who spent so much of their time out and about, playing on the streets of Broomhall, especially around the flats. Things were different then – no internet, computer games or mobile phones!

This gallery contains photos taken in 1979/80.

    I’m the girl on the right in the first photo. ‘Three girls st Broomhall adventure playground. My cousin Angie is on the right. She was visiting from Devon. I don’t remember the little girl in the middle. Amazing to see these old photos!

    oh wow i carnt believe i have come across these pictures there are 2 of me on the wooden playground would it be possible for you to email them to me i loved living on broomhall flats and all your pictures are brill thanks for the memories x

    Hi Claire. Thanks for you comment! Yes, many people are having their memories jogged by some of the photos. Of course you can have a copy any you particularly like. You can download the web-version of an image straight from the website by simply right-clicking on it, and ‘saving-as’. Alternatively, leave a comment here with the title of the particular images, and I can email you a higher-resolution version – the actual scans we made of the old photos.     Hi these pictures bring back happy memory’s, I was wondering if it’s possible to get a copy of the photos that I’m in. They are the picture with me ( Dave Lee, Mark Thomas and Darren Broughton) and the picture with the same three boys in it titled 3 lads playing in snow. Thanks
