Letters written by Edith Annie DICKINSON née MAITLAND of 27 Broomhall Place, Sheffield, to her elder daughter, Winifred Maitland DICKINSON (referred to as Freda in letters) during the summer of 1911.

Sheffield August. 22. 1911.
My dear Freda
I am sorry you are not coming home today, but also relieved, things are very bad indeed here, the strike not over by any means. Father has gone to South Wales about a post Mr Parkin sent him word of. Dad has been very poorly a very bad cold & sore throat, but seems better again only very depressed. I am sending you 2/6 I only wish it was more. Be sure & give my most sincere thanks to both Miss S & Val & I do hope it will not put them about helping you longer. If you have any time you might write Mabel she is very anxious to hear from you. Her address is

It goes for a penny. I delivered your message to Jack he only smiled. The weather had completely changed here wet, dull & cold. Jack is waiting to go to the General with this.

Miss S and Val: Probably the Misses Parkin, Freda was staying with in Cricklewood
Mabel Berry: General domestic servant aged 20 in the household on 1911 census
Dad: Frederick Percy Dickinson, journalist and a sub-editor of the Sheffield Telegraph
